All things being equal, boxer Joshua Clottey is expected to fight American boxing legend, Floyd Mayweather Jr this year based upon terms and conditions that defined his fight with Australian Anthony Mundine in Newcastle, Australia.
Besides, having won the WBA International title, he automatically becomes the number one contender to Mayweather Jr's light-middleweight crown.
But before that materialises, the 36-year- old has had to grapple with the whereabouts of his newest collection in a career that has recorded 38 wins, including 22 knockouts, and four losses.
Boxer Joshua Clottey returns to Ghana tomorrow from his latest conquest in Australia, but without the prize he toiled for.
Nearly two weeks after outpointing Australian Anthony Mundine in Newcastle, Australia, Clottey is yet to receive the championship belt for winning the fringe World Boxing Association (WBA) International light-middleweight title.
For a sport that has the tradition of presenting titles to winners in the ring just after their triumph, the absence of the WBA International belt on the night of April 9, 2014 when Clottey downed Mundine five times on his way to victory appeared strange.
"I raised questions but it seemed to me that they did not expect me to win the title," Clottey explained to the Daily Graphic.
"I called my manager in the United States over the matter and he spoke to them about it. It was to be delivered within days, but now almost two weeks after the fight, I’m yet to receive the belt," he lamented.
