Foreign-controlled banks accounted for a dominant share of secured credit registered by banks in the second quarter of 2026, the quarter 2, 2026 Collateral Registry Report has revealed.
Out of the total GH¢19.9 billion registered by banks, they registered GH¢14.1 billion, representing 71.1%.
This reflected an increase of 19.3% over the second quarter of 2025 value of GH¢11.8 billion.
On the other hand, indigenous banks registered total credit of GH¢5.7 billion during the review period. This corresponds to a year-on-year growth of 112.4% from GH¢2.7 billion recorded in the second quarter of 2025.
The distribution underscores the continued dominance of foreign-controlled banks in secured lending, while also reflecting steady growth among indigenous banks.
Large Enterprises Accounted for 43% of Secured Credit
Large Enterprises received GH¢13.8 billion equivalent to 43.9% of the total registered secured credit reflecting a year-on-year increase of 18.3%.
Other Borrowers received GH¢10.1 billion, representing 32.0% of total credit.
Advances of secured credit to Small Medium Enterprises increased by 28.9% to GH¢3.8 billion in the second quarter of 2026 from GH¢2.9 billion in the second quarter of 2025.
Sectoral Distribution of Secured Credit
The Construction sector received the largest share of registered secured credit within the period, amounting to GH¢9.9 billion equivalent to 31.4% of total registered credit.
The Commerce and Finance sector recorded 25.9% increase, with credit values increasing from GH¢6.4 billion to GH¢8.1 billion over the review period.
Secured lending to the Services sector also expanded significantly, increasing by 154.8%.
