As the novel coronavirus continues to bite hard and ravage livelihoods and economies, Oil Marketing Company, GOIL Company Limited has demonstrated its commitment towards the welfare of the country by embarking on a number of interventions to limit the effects and spread of the pandemic.

The CIMG Hall of fame Petroleum Company, in accordance with its corporate agenda to give back to society, has extended support to a number of institutions particularly those at the forefront of the fight, justifying its position as not only market leaders in the Oil Marketing Industry but a valuable asset to the state.

Interventions

Since the outbreak of the disease in Ghana, the company has provided medical supplies, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), disinfectants and related cleaning supplies among other essential items worth thousands of cedis to six bodies in the country.

Among the beneficiary institutions are the National COVID-19 Fund, the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), the 37 Military Hospital, the Police Hospital, the Ashaiman Polyclinic, and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU).

The items presented to the institutions included thousands of surgical gowns and full body gear, hand gloves, medical scrubs, face masks, surgical nose masks, paper towels, and hundreds of Veronica Buckets and bed sheets.

The institutions also received  gallons of disinfectants, hand sanitisers, liquid soap and rubbing alcohol to boost proper hygienic practices.

In the case of the GPRTU, GOIL further presented an amount of GH₵10,000 to support the smooth delivery of the items to the regions.

The company also donated an amount of GH₵200,000 to the National Covid-19 Fund to support government’s efforts in combatting the disease.

The Group CEO and Managing Director of GOIL, Mr Kwame Osei-Prempeh, donated the amount to the Chief of Staff, Mrs Akosua Frema Opare at the Jubilee House recently in Accra.

Mr Osei-Prempeh has also pledged the commitment of the company to continue supporting the fight against the coronavirus disease, assuring that the company will be of benefit to Ghanaians as the biggest and indigenous OMC in the country.

Ensuring safety at the pumps

Aside the mammoth display of benevolence within the crisis period, the company has also made significant adjustments in its operations to guarantee the safety of its staff in response to the various preventive measures declared by the government.

During the lockdown period, the company reduced the number of staff at its stations to limit their exposure to the disease.

The company has also provided a comprehensive safety guideline to direct the operations of its staff and dealers at its outlets across the country in the quest to guarantee the safety of its staff and consumers.

In the guideline, which was signed by Mr Osei-Prempeh, the company outlined a number of preventive measures, including the frequent disinfection of its outlets and mandatory wearing of nose masks by its staff even before the government declared same.

The guideline further directed Marketing Executives to check on the welfare status of their various stations daily and ensure PPEs are available and suitable at stations daily.

Commitment to do more

The Management of GOIL has been explaining that it recognised the serious nature of the coronavirus disease and its implications on the country, hence its decision to support institutions that are at the forefront of the fight as part of its corporate social responsibility. “This is part of our corporate social responsibility. As the leading oil marketing company in the country, we want to be very responsible and to be seen as part of the nation’s effort in fighting COVID-19,” said the Chief Operating Officer of GOIL, Mr Alex Josiah Adzew when he presented some items to the 37 Military Hospital last month.
