Managers of the country's only gold refinery is pushing for laws that would compel mining firms to refine a fraction of their precious metal in the country.
Asapavasa Gold Refinery, believes this is one of the surest ways the indigenous sector can be developed.
Most of the mining firms in the country, currently transport their gold outside the country for refinery.
Quality Control Manager of the refinery, Seth Quayson tells Joy Business refining the gold locally would ensure that Ghana gets higher dividends from its gold exports.
He also disagrees with arguments that they do not have the capacity to take on such challenge.
The firm has the capacity to refine 3,215 ounces of gold a day for exports and this could be linked with big wigs in the industry like Ran Refinery and Metalor in Switzerland.
