COP (RTD) Alex Mensah has filed his nomination forms to contest in the New Patriotic Party parliamentary primary at Asante Bekwai, currently occupied by the 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament Joseph Osei Owusu.
Speaking to Adom news correspondent, Isaac K. Normanyo, the outspoken ex-police officer said for some time, there has been a divided NPP in the Bekwai constituency and he is going to ensure that all the divisions come together as a strong force to help ‘break the 8’.
He recalled that in the 2020 elections, pervasive divisions led to the emergence of an independent candidate in the party, while many constituency executives including polling station chairmen, were also dismissed. The resulting anger, he said, led to apathy and many voted against the NPP.
Should that persist, he said breaking the 8 will be very difficult, hence he has come to unite all the factions, reiterating that breaking the 8 will not be an easy task.
COP Alex Mensah insisted that only unity will guarantee victory and urged his supporters to eschew insults and rather campaign on issues and his vision for the constituency.
Some party supporters noted that COP Alex Mensah has a strong vision to help the youth and the elderly in the Bekwai constituency and that his bold and affable nature makes him the ideal candidate deserving of the mandate.
COP Mensah has been in the news in recent times, following his controversial claims against the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
Joe Osei Owusu has served notice not to contest the seat again after his four terms in parliament - 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020.
