The Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Osman Abdulai Ayariga, has disclosed that the total cost of refurbishing the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex will only be made public after the project is fully completed.
He explained that ongoing works and adjustments make it premature to put out a final figure at this stage.
Speaking on the project’s status, Mr Ayariga noted that the facility was originally approved in March 2018 as a US$4 million multi-purpose sports complex under the then Minister for Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah.
However, the project has experienced prolonged delays over the years, affecting both timelines and projected costs.
According to the NYA CEO, the extended duration of the project is likely to result in an increase in the overall cost compared to the initial estimate.
He added that the focus of the Authority is to ensure that the complex is completed to the required standard and fully equipped to serve its intended purpose.
Mr Ayariga indicated that the refurbishment is now expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
He assured the public that once the project is finished, the full cost details will be disclosed in the interest of transparency and accountability.
