The Convention People’s Party is considering selecting their running mate to partner Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom on the 21st September, 2008.
The proposed date marks the birth day of the founder of the party and the first President of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Like the twist and turns associated with the selection of the New Patriotic Party running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia that of the CPP will not be any different.
Already, Alhaji Asuman Bandah, a business magnate, Alhaji Abu Sakara first vice chairman of the CPP, and Anna Bossman, acting commissioner of the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) have come up strongly for consideration.
But communication strategist of the party David Ampofo says various factors will be taken into consideration before selecting the running mate.
Speaking to Joy News Mr. Ampofo says the running mate selection will be a strategic decision to promote and reinforce the notion that the CPP is the only true party worthy of election into power in December.
Even though he admits a woman stands a chance of being selected, he said other factors such as regional balance will be taken into consideration in selecting the running mate.
If the proposed 21st September is adopted, the party will officially launch its campaign on the same day.
Meanwhile the People’s National Convention (PNC) is awaiting the return of its flagbearer Dr. Edward Mahama to name its vice presidential candidate.
Dr. Mahama is currently soliciting support of Ghanaians abroad and is scheduled to arrive in the country on 21st of August.
Party Chairman Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan in a separate interview with Joy News says the PNC will select its running mate a week after Dr. Mahama’s return.
He was however tight lipped on the possible candidates for the position.
