The Chamber of Real Estate (CRE) is intensifying its advocacy for a social housing scheme aimed at addressing the critical housing needs of Ghanaians.
This initiative, part of the Chamber's broader vision of promoting social responsibility and urban development, seeks to close the widening gap between private property ownership and the housing affordability crisis.
Ghana’s housing policies have historically focused on government-led initiatives, leaving significant gaps in the public domain.
Recent trends in the real estate market have shown a surge in private property ownership, often priced beyond the reach of the average Ghanaian.
This has exacerbated the country's housing deficit and deepened social inequalities.
To combat this, CRE has partnered with the Chartered Institute of Realtors (CIR) to spearhead support for the social housing scheme.
The Chamber’s strategy includes developing affordable rental options for low-income families, improving informal settlements, and fostering public-private partnerships for housing projects.
Additionally, CRE is advocating for streamlined regulations and incentives for developers to build affordable housing, as well as training programs for skilled labour in the construction and maintenance of these units.
The Chamber is calling on private institutions, developers, traditional leaders, public institutions, and the government to support this initiative, emphasizing that collective efforts are essential to alleviate Ghana’s housing crisis.
