Cristiano Ronaldo has shared an update after he lost his baby boy during labour.
In a new social media post, the Manchester United superstar expresses his gratitude after returning home with his partner Georgina Rodriguez and his newborn daughter.
Making use of Instagram on Thursday, April 21, the soccer star shared a photo of himself cradling his baby girl.
In the snap, he was accompanied by his girlfriend as well as their children. "Home sweet home. Gio and our baby girl are finally together with us," so he wrote in the caption.
"We want to thank everyone for all the kind words and gestures. Your support is very important and we all felt the love and respect that you have for our family," Cristiano continued.
"Now it's time to be grateful for the life that we've just welcomed into this world," he concluded along with a couple of folded hands emojis as well as a single red heart emoji.
Cristiano and Georgina announced the heartbreaking news of their son's death on Monday, April 18. "It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away," they wrote in a joint statement.
"It is the greatest pain that any parent can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness," the couple went on to say. They later thanked the doctors and nurses "for all their expert care and support."
Cristiano and Georgina further stressed that they suffered a great loss. "We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time," stated the pair.
They then concluded the emotional post, "Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you."
Cristiano, who shares his 4-year-old daughter Alana Martina with Georgina, divulged that he was expecting twins in October last year.
At the time, the athlete, who is also a dad to 4-year-old twins Eva Maria and Mateo as well as 11-year-old son Cristiano Jr., shared the exciting news with a snapshot of them holding up ultrasound snapshots of the babies. "Delighted to announce we are expecting twins. Our hearts are full of love - we can't wait to meet you," he captioned the post.
