The Crystal Ladies Association has handed over the rehabilitated Tema Day Care Centre it refurbished at a cost of GH¢28,000.
The Community 2 No. 1 Day Care which is one of Tema’s early childhood development centers under Ghana Education Service, had not received regular maintenance since its inception, compelling the children to learn under appalling conditions.
The association’s 2018/2019 project research identified what they described as infrastructural maintenance challenges in critical areas, which informed the decision to refurbish it as part of their charity programs.
The association renovated the washrooms, roof leakages, fans, lightings and ceiling of children’s sleeping area while the school compound also received a facelift.
Speaking at the commissioning, the President of the association, Mrs. Julia Adu Amaning, appealed to the authorities to adopt a good maintenance culture to keep the structure at a desirable standard, in order to convince more non-governmental organisations to support other schools that may be in the same situation.
In a speech read on behalf of the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, the Human Resource Officer, Mrs Naomi Boakye, commended the association for numerous projects it has undertaken in the metropolis.
She further called on the private sector to emulate the gesture of the association as this will help in addressing the issues confronting people within the municipality.
She also commended the teachers for ensuring quality care for the children.
Crystal Ladies
In 2012, a few ladies came together with the sole purpose to start a selfless journey towards impacting lives from their individual earnings.
Consequently, Crystal Ladies Association was established in 2013 as a non-governmental organisation with a vision of making society a better place to live in.
The association focuses on supporting less-privileged children in society to give them hope and relevance towards the future.
Its projects are funded through monthly donation by members, voluntary contributions, sponsorship and support of the patrons.
Projects
In February 2016, the association supported the New Life Orphanage at Nungua in Accra, which had one of the children’s rooms gutted by fire.
It also offered support to the orphanage through the provision of assorted foods, toiletries and clothing to ease the unexpected pressure caused.
