The Digital Broadcasting Migration Committee has explained that TV users do not necessarily require new sets to receive TV signals when the digital broadcasting migration commences in December.
As part of the migration exercise, some minimum standards for receiving TV signals have been established. Compatible TV sets bearing a special “Digital Ghana thumb' logo as a certification mark are therefore expected on the market from sometime June.
Secretary to the committee, Edmund Fianko is however assuring that users of non-compliant TV sets as well as satellite TV platforms like Multi TV need not worry about getting new sets.
“We are not banning TV sets that do not conform to the specifications because you can still use a decoder to watch only if you have a decoder conforms. All the discussions that we’re having has to do with the terrestrial platform and so the satellite decoders are perfectly fine. Those who are buying Pay TV decoders already in the system wont also have to worry because its only those the new Pay TV decoders would have to conform to the standards” he explained.
