Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Deputy Minister of Information, has expressed distaste about the tone of Nana Akufo-Addo, 2008 flag-bearer of the NPP, on happenings in the country, describing his press conference Tuesday as a mere attempt to stage a comeback for his “selfish ambition”. He told Joy New’s Dzifa Bampoe that instead of Nana Addo making objective criticism and giving credit to the government where it is due, he (Nana) decided to whip up tension in the country especially in Dagbon. “I thought Nana Addo would have risen above the serial callers of the NPP and all that; he just sounded like them,” Okudzeto pointed out, referring to a statement by Nana Addo that the kind of oppression in the country could force militants in the NPP to rise as a mere threat. The 2008 presidential candidate of the NPP Tuesday morning addressed a press conference attended by party supporters, Members of Parliament and some leadership of the NPP, to address a number of national issues. He touched on the economy, recent frequent power outages, intended prosecution of former government officials, Dagbon chieftaincy conflict, and among others, some national policies initiated by the erstwhile NPP-led government. But Mr Ablakwa accused the 2008 presidential candidate of churning out factual “inaccuracies” and described the first public comment by Nana Akufo-Addo as “his own attempt to make another comeback”. Touching on the Dagbon conflict where the government has been fingered for favouring one faction – Andanis – in the area, the Deputy Information Minister rather accused the previous administration of not doing enough in the first place, to prevent the conflict. He said even after the killing of Ya Na Yakubu Andani II and some of his overlords, the then government under the watch of Nana Addo as the Attorney General failed to seek justice for the victims.
