The inaugural Women’s T20 Cricket Bilateral Series concluded successfully in Obuasi, with Didi Strikers emerging victorious in all three matches.
The tournament, held from November 29 to December 1, 2024, at the KNUST Obuasi Cricket Oval, was organized by the Obuasi Cricket Academy and the Ashanti Region Cricket Association.
With support from the Ghana Cricket Association, Underground Mining Alliance (UMA), Didi Foods, Obuasi Bitters, and KNUST Obuasi Campus, the event marked a significant milestone in promoting women’s cricket in the Ashanti Region.
Match Results
First Match
Didi Strikers won the toss and batted first, scoring 114 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. UMA Stars, chasing 115, managed 92 runs before being bowled out, handing Didi Strikers a 22-run victory.
Second Match
Didi Strikers again batted first after winning the toss, posting 117 runs for four wickets. UMA Stars fell short in their chase, scoring 91 runs in their 20 overs, losing by 26 runs.
Third Match
In the final game, UMA Stars opted to bat first after winning the toss, scoring 85 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Didi Strikers comfortably chased the target in 18 overs, losing just four wickets and securing a clean sweep in the series.
Individual Awards
• Best Batter: Eva Kodie
• Best Bowler: Ellen Asante
• Player of the Series: Jessica Amponsah
The event was attended by key members of the Underground Mining Alliance management, including Operations Manager Oscar Van Etten and Project Managers Stuart Hamilton and Lawrence Turkson.
The Obuasi Cricket Academy expressed gratitude to all sponsors and supporters for their contributions to the success of the series.
This tournament not only showcased the talent of Ghana’s young female cricketers but also set the stage for further development of women’s cricket in the region.
