Family members, political leaders, religious figures, and media professionals on Thursday, February 19, gathered at the residence of the late Dr Alhaji Abubakari Sidick Ahmed, former Station Manager of Radio Univers, to mourn his passing and celebrate his legacy.
Among those present were the spokesperson of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Armeyaw Shaibu, renowned broadcaster Bola Ray, former ministers, Members of Parliament, and executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Also in attendance was former Zongo Minister, Boniface Abubakar Saddique, who led a delegation to commiserate with the family.
Bola Ray, who grew into the media psace began his journey as a student volunteer at Radio Univers,also paid tribute, describing him as a mentor to many young broadcasters.

“He believed in grooming people and giving them confidence. Many of us in the industry benefited from his guidance,” he noted.
The gathering followed earlier tributes by former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who recalled that Dr Abubakari Sidick Ahmed gave him his first-ever media interview in Ghana, a moment he described as pivotal in his public life.

Several former and current volunteers of Radio Univers were also present, recounting how the late station manager transformed the campus radio station into a training ground for young journalists and communicators.
Dr Alhaji Abubakari Sidick Ahmed, who passed away earlier this week after a brief illness, was widely regarded as a pioneer in university-based broadcasting and a mentor to generations of media practitioners.
His death has triggered an outpouring of tributes from across Ghana’s media, political, and religious communities, reflecting the wide influence he wielded during his decades of service.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days.
