Popular Ghanaian disc jockey and media personality, DJ Black, has returned to the airwaves with Musik Box on Hitz FM, as part of the station’s new programming line-up unveiled this July.
The show, airing from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon, marks the celebrated DJ’s comeback to regular radio presentation of the show after taking off some time to focus on his behind-the-scenes role as Programmes Manager.
Known in real life as Kwadwo Ampofo, DJ Black brings decades of experience, deep musical knowledge and unmatched credibility to the refreshed mid-morning slot. Musik Box is a strictly music-focused programme, offering trending tracks, expertly curated playlists and a smooth listening experience for audiences at work or on the move.
DJ Black, a major pillar in Ghana’s modern radio and DJ scene, began his career in 1993 while in secondary school. He later became one of the country’s leading DJs, working with Prime Cut and hosting major shows on Radio Universe, Joy FM and Hitz FM.

Over the years, he has hosted some of Ghana’s biggest music shows, including the Open House Party, Joy Beach Jam, Weekend Warmer, and served as the official DJ for the Ghana Music Awards for a number of years.

A graduate of the University of Ghana and the Ghana Institute of Journalism, DJ Black has played sets across the continent, including at the Big Brother Africa finals in Johannesburg in 2011, and was the first judge selected for the Channel O Sprite Emcee Africa Tour.
His return to the Musik Box, is part of a broader restructuring at Hitz 103.9 FM, which promises listeners a more engaging and youth-focused radio experience.
Among the notable changes is the pairing of respected arts journalist Kwame Dadzie with Doreen Avio on the flagship morning show Daybreak Hitz, airing weekdays from 6:10 am to 10:00 am. The duo will deliver celebrity interviews, entertainment news, music, cultural discussions and more, positioned as a vibrant alternative to politically driven morning radio.
Andy Dosty, formerly host of Daybreak Hitz, now leads the Afternoon Ride (12:00 noon to 4:00 pm), featuring love songs, mid-tempo tracks and lifestyle content. The show introduces exciting new segments.
From 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Cruise Control continues with Merqury Quaye, who introduces a new Spotlight segment for personality interviews on Thursdays and Fridays. The evening line-up wraps with Hitz Gallery hosted by Dr Pounds from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, now featuring additions like What’s Up in Town and Something Wicked Sports.
The refreshed schedule reaffirms Hitz FM’s status as a leader in entertainment and lifestyle radio in Ghana. The station’s content is available across Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, with all shows streaming live via social media and www.myjoyonline.com.
Listeners can expect an energised sound, deeper engagement and iconic voices like DJ Black keeping the pulse of Ghanaian music culture alive.
