DKT International, a leading non-profit social enterprise dedicated to improving reproductive health and family planning, has partnered with the Member of Parliament (MP) for Upper Manya Krobo constituency to build and commission a community-based health facility for Aframase, a deprived farming community in the Eastern region.
The organisation initially settled on sinking a mechanised water system for the community. The decision, however, changed when the MP, Bismark Tetteh Nyarko convinced the group of the dire need of a health facility.
To make it a reality, the MP acquired land and procured 300 pieces of blocks to augment its takeoff.
The facility forms part of the MP's efforts at easing the burden on residents, who hirtheto travelled long hours to access health care at the district's hospital in Asesewa.
Speaking at a ceremony to officially open the facility, the Country Director of DKT International Ghana, Alex Brown, said the group was moved by the plight of the community to put up the facility.

According to him, their initial assessment revealed a rather sorry state of a classroom improvised as a health facility.
He stated that the project was to honour the memory of Phil Harvey, the founder of DKT International, whose lifelong commitment was to improving access to quality reproductive healthcare for underserved populations.
"After his passing, he left behind a fund to carry on his vision of serving the most vulnerable in his memory.
"Initially, DKT Ghana planned to use this fund to construct boreholes in deprived communities across Ghana. I am pleased to share that one community in the Bono East region has already benefited from these borehole project, gaining access to clean and safe drinking water", he said.
The Director was convinced the facility will provide primary healthcare services, maternal care, child welfare, and family planning to the people of Aframase and surrounding communities.

In addition to the health infrastructure, DKT Ghana also sunk a borehole to give the community access to clean and safe water, a vital complement to the health post and a boost to community wellbeing.
"We are deeply grateful for the support that made this project possible. Special appreciation goes to Hon. Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, MP for Upper Manya Krobo Constituency, for your unwavering support and encouragement throughout this journey.
"In fact, the MP went a step further by giving out a piece of land that had earlier been allocated to him for the construction of a clinic, and also donated some materials to support the building of this facility," he disclosed.
The MP Bismark Tetteh Nyarko was appreciative of the intervention.
"Over 80 per cent of communities in my constituency are deprived due to lack of potable water, health facilities, and motorable roads, so your assistance is timely and recognisable," he observed.
On his part, Nene Ta Gbadja, chief of Asesewa who chaired the function commended the ingenuity and vision of the MP for bringing development to the area.
He also urged them to come to the aid of more deprived communities in the Upper Manya Krobo constituency.
