The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has engaged stakeholders in the Oti Region on the rollout of new Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) license plates, part of a nationwide initiative to modernise vehicle registration.

The new number plates will include advanced security features such as RFID technology, regional codes, and unique identifiers.

These upgrades are aimed at improving vehicle tracking, reducing smuggling, and enhancing road safety across the country.

Speaking at the stakeholders’ forum in Dambai, Deputy Director of Vehicle Licensing Registration, Kwasi Bona Otuo Serebour, urged vehicle owners in the Oti Region to participate in the enrollment process.

He highlighting the benefits in terms of security, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

He advised drivers not to rush to register new vehicles, noting that the nationwide registration process will officially begin in January 2026.

Vehicle owners who have already registered their vehicles are encouraged to visit any DVLA center for the embodiment of the new plates.

In an interview with Adom News, Fuseini Mohammed, a Regional Member of the Cargo Union, along with other drivers, praised the new electronic plates, stating they will help prevent robberies and illegal smuggling.

"Digitalization is here to stay,” Mohammed added, “and it will help bring order between the police and drivers on issues such as road insurance and vehicle compliance.”
