The Electoral Commission has warned Mr. Dan Lartey, the leader of the Great Consolidated Popular Party, to be mindful of the kind of information he puts out into public domain about the commission's activities.
In a statement issued by the EC, it stated that the commission does not recognise the so-called National Executive Officers of the GCPP purported to have been elected at a national congress held at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi on June 7, 2008.
This is due to the fact that GCPP failed to comply with the requirement which states that the internal organisation of all political parties must conform to democratic principles.
The law requires all political parties to elect constituency and regional officers at elections supervised by the Electoral Commission which will subsequently lead to the election of National Executive Officers of the party.
The GCPP ignored this provision and proceeded to hold national congress to elect its National Executive Officers without having held elections at the constituency and regional levels under the supervision of the EC.
"It is against this background that the Commission does not recognize the so-called National Executive Officers of the party elected at the said congress," the statement stated.
"Again the Commission wishes to register its abhorrence of Mr Dan Lartey's persistent reference to a Director in the commission as a clerk. The commission finds such remark an affront on the dignity and position of the officer, and advises him to desist from such references any further," it added.
Touching on the status of Mr Lartey as the flag-bearer of the GCPP, the Commission explained that it has no obligation under the law to supervise the election of candidates at political party primaries.
