The Central Regional Power Queens Club of the Electricity Company of Ghana has made donations to the Otwekodua Basic School in Otwekrom in the Twifo Atti-Mokwaa District of the Central Region.
The donation includes desks, books, stationery items and bags of cement. The school building has been in a dilapidated state making academic activities very difficult, according to school authorities.
Eva Adjei, President of the Power Queens Club, stated that the donation formed part of the club’s corporate social responsibility and was initiated by their General Manager, Ing. Emmanuel Ankomah.
Eva Adjei said the decision to donate to the school was an inspiration that came after a survey of various deprived schools in different districts in the region.

“As part of our corporate social responsibility, we are here to donate some things to the school, Otwekodua Basic School. This plan was initiated by our GM, Ing. Ankomah Emmanuel. There were many schools we surveyed, but after we saw the children of this school, the school’s structure, even the teachers and parents of the children, we were inspired so much that we had to go and quickly come back,” she stated.

The president of the club also mentioned that it was the hope of the club that the donation would inspire the students to work hard. She stated that the act was not a one-time thing and that the club plans to continue with this project, for the school and other schools.

"We hope that even after our tenure, the next batch of executives of the club will continue with this project. We will continue to do this project, not only here but somewhere else. We will come back again to this school to continue the project we intend to do.”

The oversight of the club, Madam Monica Incoom, also said the club intends to do more for Otwekodua Basic School after witnessing the school’s present condition. She thanked the head teacher of the school for his help towards the development of the school.

The head teacher of Otwekodua Basic School,Victor Andoh, expressed the school’s gratitude to the club and pleaded with them to aid teaching and learning with whatever help they have left for the school.

“My colleague teachers and I are very happy about what the Power Queens have done for the school." We’ve been waiting for this for a very long time, so we are very grateful for the donation. We hope that whatever is left that the club wants to help the school with, it will be brought to help teaching and learning in the school.

He also called on the government and other stakeholders to help fix the school’s dilapidated building so that the students will be encouraged to attend the school.

He then pleaded with the teachers who are posted to the school but refuse to stay that they should have patience and compassion and help develop the school.

The chief of Otwekrom, Nana John, thanked the ladies of the Power Queens Club. He implored the club to continue to support the school with such donations.
