The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is calling for a suspension of the ongoing voters’ register exhibition exercise to address anomalies.
Deputy General Secretary, Peter Boamah Otokunor believes this is the only way to ensure a credible electoral roll ahead of the upcoming general elections.
"We have to call off the register, make sure that every single person who registered has his name appearing in the register. Send it back to the polling station then reopen the exhibition and let everybody go and check and let's be sure that nobody is missing," he told JoyNews.
The party at a press conference on Thursday enumerated a myriad of irregularities which they say is impeding the success of the exercise.
According to NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama, these developments, if not addressed in time will disenfranchise many Ghanaians and the also plunge the country into chaos.
The Electoral Commission had earlier convened an Inter-Party Committee meeting where it assured the various political parties of its commitment to ensuring the success of the exercise.
But speaking on Top Story, the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC posited that mere assurances are not enough.
"All they need to do is to pull back, resolve all the problems. They should make sure that every person who went to the registration centre and registered has his/her name in the register. Send it back to the polling station".
The exercise, per his observation, has not served its purpose.
The Electoral Commission has admitted to some errors such as duplication of identification numbers, photographs, missing names among others in the on-going exhibition.
It has also extended the process by two days, a period which the NDC has described as inadequate.
