President Akufo-Addo, has reaffirmed his commitment to Ghana’s democratic principles in the upcoming elections.
He assured citizens that he would hand over leadership to whichever candidate is elected in the 2024 poll.
The President said this at the grand durbar of the annual Anlo Hogbetsotso Za festival.
The festival, which brought together dignitaries, traditional leaders, and members of the community, saw President Akufo-Addo express gratitude to the Anlo people for their support and unwavering prayers throughout his eight-year presidency.
The vibrant festival hosted in Anloga by the Anlo Dukor featured cultural performances and drew together dignitaries from across Ghana.
The President used the occasion to thank the people of Anlo for their longstanding peace and for consistently supporting his administration’s vision.
"I am grateful for the immense support I have received from Anlo Dukor and their prayers for my government. As I prepare to complete my tenure, I assure you that I will respect the choice of Ghanaians and peacefully hand over to whoever they choose as their next leader,” he stated.
Reflecting on his administration’s achievements in the Volta Region, President Akufo-Addo highlighted various developmental projects that have benefited Anlo Dukor, underscoring his administration’s commitment to regional growth.
He acknowledged the contributions of the chiefs and people of Anlo, emphasizing the need for peace and unity as the nation heads towards another election.
The festival's importance was further underscored by the presence of Torgbui Sri III, the Awormefia of Anlo, who expressed his deep appreciation to President Akufo-Addo for the various development initiatives that have uplifted the Volta Region.
Torgbui Sri’s words echoed sentiments of gratitude and hope, saying, “We thank you for the numerous development projects that Anlo Dukor and the Volta Region at large have received during your administration. We hope for even greater progress in our communities as we continue to collaborate with the government."
The ceremony was also graced by Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, the Omanhene of the Oguaa Traditional Area, who spoke passionately about the significance of cultural unity.
In his address, he highlighted the powerful bonds that cultural heritage creates, binding families, communities, and individuals.
"Our cultural bonds, our emotional ties, these are the elements that unite individuals within a community, linking parents, children, and extended families. They provide a foundation of support, a sense of belonging, and love," he remarked.
He stressed that these connections foster mental health and healthy relationships, promoting open expression, conflict resolution, and respect for individual identity. "It is through these cultural traditions that we celebrate our heritage and strengthen our unity," he added.
Osabarima Kwesi Atta II’s remarks underscored the essential role of traditional festivals in sustaining unity and nurturing relationships, as families and communities come together to celebrate shared heritage and achievements.
This year’s Hogbetsotso Za, one of Ghana’s most iconic cultural festivals, showcased traditional Anlo music, dance, and rituals, celebrating the historic migrationAnlo people from Notsie in Togo.
Thousands of participants, including notable personalities such as the running mate of the NDC presidential candidate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and several NPP District Chief Executives and government ministers, joined the festival.
The event served as a powerful reminder of the unity in Ghana’s diversity, as leaders from different political, social, and cultural backgrounds came together to honour Anlo's heritage.
As the festival concluded, the President’s message of unity, peace, and democratic integrity resonated deeply with attendees.
The Anlo people and Ghanaians nationwide were reminded of the importance of cherishing and preserving Ghana’s democratic heritage.
