The Ghanaian Hungarian Business Council (GHUNBC) has expressed confidence in Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) as the nation prepares for its general elections on December 7, 2024.
In a goodwill message, the Council commended the EC for its dedication to Ghana’s democratic principles and urged continued professionalism, transparency, and impartiality throughout the electoral process.
“We trust that the Commission will continue to carry out its duties with the highest level of professionalism, transparency, and impartiality,” said Kofi Asmah, Chairman of the GHUNBC.
Mr Asmah, who is also a lawyer and managing partner of Gyandoh, Asmah and Co., emphasized the importance of peaceful elections for national stability and prosperity.
Reflecting on past electoral violence, he encouraged the EC to remain resolute and fair in its dealings with all political parties and candidates.
“A peaceful election is essential to the stability and prosperity of the nation. We are confident that the Commission will play a key role in facilitating the development of democratic governance through fair-handedness in the elections,” Kofi Asmah stated.
The Ghanaian Hungarian Business Council operates under the auspices of the Hungarian Embassy in Ghana and has been a vital conduit for fostering Ghana-Hungary relations since its inauguration in 2017 by H.E. Péter Szijjártó, Hungary’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade.
The Council has facilitated significant investments in Ghana, including wastewater treatment plants by PURECO/Jospong Group and the Water Retainer Project by Water and Soil KFT/Blue Raven.
Hungarian companies also play a pivotal role in Ghana’s public services, with ANY producing Ghana’s passports and National Health Insurance Scheme identification cards.
Upcoming joint projects between Hungary’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry and GHUNBC aim to expand collaborations in agriculture, manufacturing, ICT, financial services, and environmental protection.
Mr Asmah reaffirmed GHUNBC’s support for the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process, underscoring the international community’s high regard for Ghana’s democracy.
“Hungary looks forward to a smooth, peaceful, and successful election which will foster unity and strengthen the democratic ideals that have long been the hallmark of Ghana,” he added.
