About 189 trainees of the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneural Development Agency (GYEEDA) in Ellembelle District of the Western Region have received equipment to start their businesses.
Out of the 189 trainees, 39 of whom were ladies trained in hair dressing while 150 men were also trained in mobile phone repairs for six months.
The items, which included hair dressing equipment and mobile phone repair kits, were given to the trainees free of charge to enable them start life their own businesses and employ others.
Mr Titus Narchia Aikins, the District Director of GYEEDA, said the programme was designed by government to train the unskilled youth to be self-employed and reduce unemployment rate.
He said the programme was a partnership between government and RLG Company to train some of the youth in mobile phone repairs and added that it was a continuous programme by government to reduce unemployment.
Mr Daniel K. Eshun, the District Chief Executive for Ellembelle, thanked government for the programme promising to monitor the activities of the beneficiaries to ensure the success and continuation of the programme.
He appealed to the beneficiaries to make good use of the knowledge acquired and also impart them to others.
