The Director of New Life Entrepreneurship Training Centre, Isaac Adu Brenya, says aspiring entrepreneurs should have an innate passion for the sustenance of their businesses.
Thousands of business ventures are launched by entrepreneurs each year, but few get off the ground.
Research shows that passion is a key predictor of entrepreneurs’ creativity, persistence and performance.
Existing entrepreneurs say the first couple of years in business is the most difficult.
This is coupled with constant questioning about the route the business is taking.
Isaac Adu Brenya says skills set and academic background should determine the areas an entrepreneur should venture.
He was speaking to David Akuetteh on Luv In the Morning on Thursday.
“Entrepreneurship is a challenge. There are a lot of risks in it. If you don’t love what you do, you will give up. Naysayers will discourage you. Try and identify your area of interest. If you can get the necessary resources and the favorable environment to nurture that talent,” he advised.
Occasionally, personal problems can lead to entrepreneurial opportunities if validated in the market.
He advises entrepreneurs to visualize the prospect of filling the gap with an innovative solution.
This he says might entail the revision of a product or the creation of an entirely new product.
“There are a lot of business opportunities around. But are you prepared for a specific area? In the first place, get an academic qualification on it. Then you follow up with the technical skills,” he advised.
