Ghana’s Michael Essien scored his first Real Madrid goal as the Los Blancos hammered Real Zaragoza 4-0 in Bernabeu.
In a swift counter attack, Essien latched onto a delicate chip by Karim Benzema and whipped it low to beat the oncoming Zaragoza keeper Adan for Madrid’s third goal late in the game.
The Ghanaian lasted the entire duration of the game with a fairly good performance.
Madrid took the lead in the first half through a rebound from Gonzalo Higuan.
His fellow Argentine Di Maria increased the tally with yet another rebound in the first half.
Helder Postiga scored what appeared to be a legitimate but was ruled offside early in the second half.
With less than two minutes left to play, Real rattled in two quick goals with Essien and Modric taking the credit.
