Germany and France were the scenes of Cup football as the top flight leagues took a break.
GERMANY
Holders Bayern Munich struck either side of the break to beat second division Eintracht Braunschweig 2-0. A dazzling free kick by David Alaba on the stroke of halftime and Mario Goetze's solo effort in the 57th minute were enough for Bayern.
They were in control but never needed to hit top form against their toothless visitors. The Bavarians, top of the Bundesliga and chasing another domestic double, were up against a gutsy Braunschweig defence, with winger Franck Ribery frustrated in the first half by Braunschweig's physical play.
FRANCE
Goals from David Luiz and Edinson Cavani helped Paris St Germain reach the semi-finals of the French Cup with a 2-0 win over Ligue 1 rivals Monaco at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.
Three days after the two teams played out a dull 0-0 league draw, they put on a much more entertaining spectacle. PSG, however, never looked under threat and recorded a morale-boosting victory ahead of next week's Champions League last-16 return leg against Chelsea.
