The Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association has suspended the Tamale Sports Stadium from hosting premier league matches.
The decision was arrived at following two separate cases of violence exhibited by the management and supporters of Real Tamale United Football Club, who use the grounds as their home in the on-going Glo Premier League.
The Ex.Co has directed the Premier League Board to select appropriate venues for the home games of Real Tamale United until the case is finally determined by the Disciplinary Committee.
"The GLO Premier League matches between Real Tamale United and Aduana Stars (21st October, 2012) and Medeama S.C. (28th October, 2012) which were played at the Tamale Sports Stadium witnessed violent conduct by Management and supporters of Real Tamale United Football Club which led to brutal attacks on the Referees and their Assistants sustaining various degrees of injuries at the end of the matches.
"In view of the above, the Executive Committee has ordered a temporary closure of the Tamale Sports Stadium, the home venue of Real Tamale United with immediate effect.
"This decision is in accordance with Article 15 (2) of the GFA Regulations which states inter alia that the “GFA may order the closure of any league centre where the safety of clubs, match officials or spectators cannot be guaranteed”. This decision is without prejudice to a determination of the case by the Disciplinary Committee.
"Meanwhile the Disciplinary Committee has been charged to hear the case in accordance with the Regulations of the Association.
"By a copy of this letter the Premier League Board is hereby directed to select appropriate venues for home games of Real Tamale United Football Club until the case is finally determined by the Disciplinary Committee," a statement from the Executive Committee of the GFA read.
