The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, has given indication that he would support legal action against the Ministry of Communication and the National Communications Authority (NCA), if they do not extend the deadline for SIM registration.
In a tweet, Mr. Nartey George noted that if the Ministry fails to heed to his call by the close of the week, "I would support legal action against the Ministry and its agency, the NCA."
According to the MP, Ghanaians are facing numerous challenges in their bid to register their SIM cards. He insists that "Ghanaians deserve better."
If by close of this week, the Ministry of Communications does not extend the SIM card re-registration deadline due to the obvious challenges Ghanaians are facing, I would support legal action against the Ministry and its agency, the @NCAGhana. Ghanaians deserve better. 🦁💪🏾🇬🇭

Since the beginning of the year, the Minority and some Ghanaians have called on the stakeholders in the communication industry to extend the period for the ongoing exercise.
They noted that a significant number of Ghanaians are yet to receive their Ghana Card, and since the card is the only acceptable national identity document for the registration of SIM cards, the deadline must be extended.
Barring any change in decision, the SIM card re-registration exercise will come to an end on March 31, 2022. Because of this, a huge number of people could be found queuing to be registered in various parts of the country.
Meanwhile, Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu has described this as unacceptable and disrespectful. He has called on the National Identification Authority (NIA) to create more registration centres to accommodate the huge number of people applying for the service.
