The University of Ghana Stadium was the epicenter of Ghanaian women’s football on Sunday, May 18, 2025, as fans were treated to a thrilling double-header finale, showcasing betPawa’s unwavering commitment to the women’s game.
The day kicked off with an electrifying Women’s FA Cup final clash between Jonina Ladies and Faith Ladies. In a dramatic turnaround, relegated Faith Ladies came from behind to secure a historic 2-1 win in extra time, clinching their maiden FA Cup title. Their remarkable feat was rewarded with a giant trophy and a GH¢40,000 cash prize.
Thanks to the betPawa Locker Room Bonus initiative, each Faith Ladies player also took home an additional GH¢800 bonus. The initiative, which has been a game-changer throughout the FA Cup campaign, aims to reward dedication and performance among athletes.
Top individual performers were not left out, as betPawa awarded GH¢3,000 each to the Most Valuable Player, Best Player, and Top Scorer of the day. Goalkeeper Annabel Bansah of Faith Ladies, who was named Best Goalkeeper, expressed her heartfelt gratitude.
“This is a very happy day for me and my teammates. Winning this title despite our relegation from the league gives us impetus to fight back next season. As for the money I have received today, I am super excited. It will help reduce some financial burdens and go a long way to support me,” she said with joy.
Later in the day, the Women’s Premier League Final delivered yet another gripping encounter dubbed “A Clash of Titans.” Police Ladies showcased their strength and tactical superiority to defeat defending champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies 2-0 and lift the coveted title.
To amplify the occasion, betPawa doubled the Locker Room Bonus for the league winners, reinforcing their holistic approach to promoting women’s football and empowering female athletes in Ghana.
President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, lauded betPawa’s impactful partnership.
“betPawa’s unwavering support continues to elevate women’s football in Ghana. The Locker Room Bonus is more than a financial incentive – it’s a powerful statement of belief in our players and officials. Their partnership is driving tangible progress, and we’re excited to see this collaboration inspire future generations,” he stated.
A long-term vision for growth
Mr. Nii Ashong Katai, Southern Africa Regional Manager for CSR & Sports Development at betPawa, emphasized the company’s long-term vision for women’s sports development.
“At betPawa, we’re not just sponsors – we’re partners in growth. By investing in these finals, we’re creating opportunities for women to excel and transforming perceptions of sport. Our goal is to build a sustainable ecosystem where female athletes thrive. Today’s announcements are just the beginning as we expand the Locker Room Bonus initiative across African countries.”
