The Upper Bobikuma Police are hunting for a 48-year-old farmer who allegedly killed his wife and daughter at Esaase, a village near Upper Bobikuma in the Agona West District of the Central Region.
A police source told the Ghana News Agency that the suspect, Stephen Alartey, was said to have used a cement block to hit both the wife and his daughter’s heads till they gave up their ghosts, He bolted after the crime.
According to the police source, on Thursday, December 12, 2024, Alartey allegedly asked the wife, Aku Motso, 37 years, and three children who were all staying with their grandmother at Agona Kwaman to come and stay with him at Esaase near Bobikuma.
The police source said that on their way to Esaase village, the suspect used a different route instead of the old bush path many people used to their various destinations.
The source said that on reaching a portion of the road, the suspect took a cement block and hit the wife and the daughter, Ophelia Alartey, 7 years, killing them on the spot.
According to the source, a hunter who heard the noise and screaming appeared at the scene all of a sudden and the suspect asked the hunter to lead him to the police station to report.
The source said that the hunter asked the suspect to take the lead for him to follow but Alartey refused and rather coerced the hunter to take the lead.
Later, Alerty was said to have found another cement block on the roadside and used it to hit the hunter on the head and when he fell unconscious, Alartey used his cutlass to slash his head, leaving a deep cut. He then took the hunter’s gun and bolted.
The hunter was later taken to the hospital and is currently receiving treatment.
Meanwhile, two of Alartey’s children, who witnessed the incident, ran back to the town to report the case and the police rushed to the scene.
The source said the suspect was at large and the Bobikuma Police is seeking information on his whereabouts. The bodies of the two have been deposited at the Agona Swedru Municipal Government hospital for autopsy.
