The just ended FIFA The Best Awards, saw Brazil's Vinicius Jr edge out Spain's Rodri to
win the player of the year award.
The Real Madrid forward won majority of the votes from the captains and the fans, with Rodri winning on the coaches and the media front.
Vinicius' over 1 million fan votes, however, is what did the trick for the Brazilian to claim the top prize.
Black Stars Head Coach, Otto Addo voted for Rodri as his first choice, with Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham his second, and Vinicius inr, his third choice.
There was no vote from Ghana's captain.
Thomas Partey was Ghana captain at the time of voting, but it is unclear why he did not cast his vote.
Jordan Ayew was recently named Black Stars captain, taking the armband from Thomas Partey.
Head coach of Côte d'Ivoire, Emerse Fae's first pick was Vinicius inr, with his Real Madrid teammate, Dani Carvajal and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, Florian Wirtz his second and third picks respectively.
Nigeria's Head Coach, Augustine Eguavoen, voted for 2023 winner Lionel Messi as his first choice, with Vinicius jur and Rodri his second and third picks.
Vinicius jr becomes the first Brazilian to win the award since Ronaldinho in 2005.
