The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has called for all stakeholders involved to do their bit to know the reason behind people losing interest in the Ghana Premier League.

Ghana's top flight has seen a drop in attendance at the various match centres with last season's numbers regarded as an all-time low.

Ahead of the new season, Joy Sports and Nhyira Sports organised a mid-year thought leadership event which was focused on talking about the challenges and solutions leading to the drop in interest in the league and revealing the findings.

Speaking at the event on Monday, July 31, Ussif, urged stakeholders to show interest in why people find it difficult to go to the various stadia.

"Two years ago, the fierce rivalry between Hearts of Oak and Great Olympics drew an overwhelming crowd. Yet, we find ourselves grappling with a disheartening decline in attendance at recent fixtures," he said.

"I refuse to believe that Ghanaians have suddenly lost interest in football. No, the passion is still alive and vibrant. We must, therefore, delve deeper into the underlying factors responsible for this decline and take decisive actions to revive our beloved league."

The new Ghana Premier League season is set to begin in September with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) announcing the fixtures on Monday, July 31.
