The Ministry of Finance, State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), and the Institute of Directors Ghana (IoD), with Professor Douglas Boateng as Convenor, have announced the inaugural Boardroom Governance Summit, scheduled for October 8, 2024, at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra.
The summit, anticipated to become a benchmark event for corporate governance, aims to promote effective boardroom practices and sustainable development in Ghana and beyond.
It will bring together executives from various industries, both in person and online, to discuss strategies that connect governance excellence with industrial competitiveness and long-term socio-economic development.
With businesses and organisations facing increasing pressure to adopt sustainable practices, the summit will serve as a platform for thought leaders to share insights on fostering accountability and resilience in corporate governance.
Key industry experts scheduled to speak include the Acting Director General of SIGA, the President of the Institute of Directors-Ghana, the Executive Chairman of the McDan Group, the President of the Ghana Bar Association, the Managing Director of Asante Gold Corporation, and the Dean of the UPSA Law School.
These panel discussions will focus on the critical role of accountability in driving sustained socio-economic progress.
Speaking ahead of the event, Professor Douglas Boateng expressed optimism about the summit's potential impact.
“I’m incredibly optimistic about the transformative potential of this summit. As we explore the connections between director accountability, governance, and sustainable development, I envision a future where our collective efforts lead to stronger, more resilient organisations and nations.”
He added, “Effective boardroom governance and accountability are essential for building resilient and sustainable organizations and economies.
"By bringing together experts and industry leaders, we aim to facilitate meaningful dialogue and knowledge exchange that will empower participants to contribute significantly to sustained development.”
With the theme "Boardroom Governance, Accountability, and Long-term Sustainable Development: The Inextricable Links," this maiden edition of the Boardroom Governance Summit is expected to be a cornerstone in the evolution of corporate governance in Ghana and beyond.
It is poised to become a leading forum for organizations committed to advancing good governance and accountability.
