The Forestry Commission has responded to media reports alleging harassment of members of the Sokoban Wood Village by its officials, stating that it is actively investigating the concerns and engaging key stakeholders for resolution.
In a rejoinder issued Tuesday, the Commission acknowledged the reports published on social media platforms and said it has invited stakeholders to a meeting at its headquarters on Friday, July 25, 2025, to address the grievances.
“The Forestry Commission is investigating the issues raised and has invited members of the Sokoban Wood Village, the executives of the Domestic Lumber Traders Association (DOLTA), and the Domestic Lumber Millers Association of Ghana (DOLMAG), among others,” the statement read.
The Commission also clarified that it had previously engaged members and executives of the Sokoban Wood Village on May 12, 2025, and addressed several concerns to their satisfaction.
It stated that following that engagement, a committee was formed to implement decisions reached at the meeting.
The Commission assured the public that issues raised by the wood sellers will be resolved through effective consultation and dialogue in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust.
