Four suspected armed robbers were killed Friday night by the Ashanti Regional police in a shootout.
The robbers, numbering about seven, had earlier robbed a business man of GH¢95,000 at Asokwa after snatching a Nissan Pathfinder from a woman at Ahodwo.
The robbers also shot a woman and managed to escape with her vehicle.
The Ashanti Regional Police commander DCOP Patrick Timbillah said the robbery occurred along the Kumasi-Obuasi highway on which a team of policemen had been patrolling.
“The robbers fired at the police in an attempt to fight them or find a way to escape and police fired back in self-defense and in the exchanges, four of them were hit by the bullet and they died while being conveyed to the hospital,” DCOP Timbillah said.
Luv FM's Kofi Adu Domfe said police later retrieved four pump-action guns, three locally made pistols, 21 pieces of live ammunition and eight shells as well as a heavy-duty cutter at the robbery scene.
DCOP Patrick Timbilla, told the media in Kumasi police would not relent in the fight against crime.
