Lawyer for the embattled Convener of Economic Fighters League, Ernesto Yeboah, has expressed disappointment in the police for arresting his client who led a vigil in the memory of murdered African American, George Floyd in the United States of America.
Francis Xavier Sosu who was speaking on Prime Morning Monday, said the group did not violate any of the Public Order Acts thus the police should not have made any such arrests.
“This group is playing a very critical role in our democracy, because civil right movement is lost in our country. The voice of reason and conscience that will rise up for what is good in this country is missing,” he said.
He advised that the State should rather take a stand against police brutality and encourage any civil rights action against such actions.
However, he bemoaned that civil right activism has been highly polarized in the country.
“As a country we have a situation on our hands, and things like this reminds us that things are not going well when it comes to law enforcement in our country.
"And we should use the occasion, instead of simply talking about America, by showing solidarity to the world, what have you done about wht is happening in your own backyard?”
Mr Sosu also indicated that there has been a rise of police brutality in this country as well.
“We are polarised politically, everything now is political to the extent that now, when you are fighting for the rights of people, others will say it is political,” he stressed.
