Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay has disputed claims by the opposition NDC that his party is busing registrants from other constituencies to certain registration centres.
Speaking on Joy FM’s News Nite Wednesday, Mr Blay said the some registrants live further away from their registration centres, therefore, party supporters have offered to bus them to the closest registration centre within their constituency in order for them to register in time.
“People are helping each other in their various constituencies.
“[Some]of the registration centres may be far from people’s house so they are busing people to come nearer...[it's] not that they are busing people to the other constituencies,” he clarified.
Earlier Wednesday, officials of the NDC in Ayawaso West Wuogon accused the incumbent MP, Lydia Seyram Alhassan of busing some residents from different constituencies to partake in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
A similar accusation has been leveled against the NPP at Asokore-Mampong in the Ashanti region by the NDC.
But Mr Blay has urged the citizenry to ignore any such allegations, adding that his party has no intentions of rigging the December 7 polls.
According to him, the NDC has made it a mission to accuse the NPP and seem bent on using any means possible to level accusations against his party even when the claims are false.
“Even before we started the registration they were saying, it is a desperate attempt by the NPP to rig elections.
“Now that it is going on that they themselves are practically involved in it and even within their strongholds registration is going on smoothly and they are putting in as much as possible to ensure that people they perceive to be living in or coming out from their strongholds are being urged to register,” he stated.
Mr Blay further commended the Electoral Commission for ensuring smooth running of the process.
He, however, urged that the safety protocols of Covid-19 are strictly adhered to prevent any further spread of the virus.
