Three markets in Kumasi are to benefit from a €40 million redevelopment facility from the French government.
The Atonsu Agogo, Asawase and Old Tafo Markets are to be redeveloped into modern city standards for trading. This brings to four similar projects in Kumasi.
City authorities say the contract has been awarded with funding from the French development agency, Agence Francaise de Development (AFD).
The project is aimed at raising the Garden City into a modern trading hub.
“Modern facilities, cold rooms and new market facilities will be provided, food will not be sold on the ground after completion of these projects,” said City Mayor, Kojo Bonsu.
Plans are far advanced for the commencement of the Central Market-Kejetia redevelopment project, funded with a loan from the Brazilian government.
Mr. Bonsu tells Luv News the assembly will be meeting market leaders to draw a relocation plan for construction to start in earnest.
