In a historic step toward enhancing directional leadership development and boardroom professionalism across the nation and the continent, the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has officially approved Professor Douglas Boateng’s pioneering book on boardroom governance.
Following a rigorous independent review, the publication titled “Practical Perspectives on Boardroom Governance” has been praised for its clarity, accessibility, and real-world relevance. Written in a compelling, easy-to-understand style, it distils complex boardroom concepts into practical insights, making it a valuable guide for a wide readership: from CEOs, board directors, and policymakers to tertiary students and senior high school learners.
The book is authored by Professor Douglas Boateng, one of Africa’s foremost and globally respected authorities on supply chain governance, industrialisation, and boardroom leadership. With a career spanning over three decades, Professor Boateng has advised governments, global institutions, and multinational corporations across five continents.
“Leadership begins with understanding and understanding must be inclusive,” said Professor Boateng. “This book is my personal and professional contribution to nurturing a continent-wide culture of ethical, competent, and future-ready governance.”
Professor Boateng is a registered chartered engineer with the UK Engineering Council, a long-standing member and Fellow of the Institute of Directors UK (over 25 years), and a Fellow of both the Ghana Institution of Engineering and the Institute of Directors-Ghana.
In 2024, the Institute of Directors-Ghana (IoD-Gh) formally honoured him with the Director of the Year Award, in recognition of his sustained contributions to boardroom professionalism, good governance, and industrial development across Ghana and the African continent. Commenting on the book’s significance, Rev. (Mrs.) Angela Carmen Appiah, FIoD, President and Chair of the tenth (10th) Governing Council of the Institute of Directors-Ghana, stated: “This landmark publication by Professor Boateng comes at a crucial time in our continent’s governance evolution. It offers practical, relevant, and transformational insights for both emerging and experienced directors. It is a must-read for anyone committed to raising the standards of leadership in Ghana and the rest of Africa.”

The book is published and printed by Appointed Time Printing Press, one of Ghana’s foremost publishing houses. Mrs Jacqueline Afful, Managing Director of Appointed Time, also remarked: “We are honoured to have worked with Professor Boateng on this generational publication. This is more than a book; it is a practical tool, a legacy resource, and a beacon of ethical leadership for Africa’s next chapter.”
