A fuel tanker has burst into flames near Kpone Barrier on the Tema-Aflao Road, leaving the driver and his mate feared trapped inside the vehicle.
The tanker, with registration number GT 8261-23, reportedly overturned after a front tyre burst before erupting into a massive fire moments later.
The incident has brought traffic on the busy stretch to a standstill, with hundreds of commuters stranded as emergency responders work to manage the situation.
Eyewitnesses said the fire spread rapidly after the tanker overturned, raising concerns about the safety of nearby facilities.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) are currently at the scene battling the blaze and working to prevent it from spreading to the nearby Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) fuel storage facility, located about 200 metres away.
The cause of the explosion has not yet been officially confirmed.
Authorities are expected to provide further details on possible casualties, the extent of damage and efforts to restore traffic flow.
