The Minority MPs on Parliament's Appointments Committee have rejected President Akufo-Addo's ministerial nominee for Food and Agriculture for being untruthful under oath.
Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto according to the 13 members of the Committees unilaterally cancelled a horticulture contract with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority on January 11, 2021, without authority.
The abrogation of the Fruit and Export Terminal Contract of 2015 by GPHA could lead to $50 million judgement debt.
Citing other reasons for his rejection, the Minority MPs said, "The nominee was grossly insincere with the Appointments Committee on his special relationship with the Director of AMG Company Limited, Ernest Appiah and the latter’s control of fertiliser contracts awarded by the Ministry."
They say the nominee "was particularly discourteous, downright condescending and offensively arrogant in his appearance at the committee which is not the kind of attitude expected of public servants."
