Funerals and weddings can be held with a maximum of 100 persons, President Akufo-Addo has announced.

Hitherto, such social events were restricted to not more than 25 persons, in the country as a measure to contain the novel coronavirus.

As part of measures to curtail the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, the President on March 31st imposed restrictions on some activities in the country.

All the country's borders were shut, schools were closed, and activities that involved gatherings of more than 25 persons were restricted including funerals, political rallies and weddings.

The President, however, in his 10th address to the nation on measures put in place to curtail the spread of the virus, said "it is imperative to find a safe way to return our lives to normality."

"I know however that we cannot live with these restrictions forever and that it is imperative to find a safe way to return our lives to normality as other nations across the globe are trying to do," he said.

The President has, therefore, lifted some restrictions in addition to the lifting of a lockdown previously imposed on the country.

According to him, some activities [needing social gathering] can now hold but with the appropriate social distancing and precaution measures in place.

"Restaurants providing seated service, conferences, workshops weddings and political activities except rallies can now take place but with limited numbers, not exceeding 100 persons," he said.

He further stated that regulatory bodies and security agencies will ensure the strict compliance with, and enforcement of the directives.
