The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, on Thursday, 11 December 2025, led the Parliamentary Select Committee on Gender, Children and Social Welfare on a joint monitoring visit to the Ayi Mensah Basic School in the Greater Accra Region and the Peduase Methodist Basic School in the Eastern Region to assess the implementation of the School Feeding Programme.
The visit was organised to validate field reports, engage directly with beneficiaries, and ensure that government investments in social protection are delivering the expected results.

Addressing pupils at both schools, Dr Lartey encouraged them to take their studies seriously, explaining that the School Feeding Programme aims to promote enrolment, retention and improved learning outcomes.
She noted that regular monitoring allows government to identify challenges, gather feedback and improve the quality and nutritional value of meals served to children.
Committee member and Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Dominic Ayine, also interacted with the pupils.

He urged them to appreciate the support offered through the programme and assured them that the government remains committed to upgrading school infrastructure to support effective teaching and learning.
Speaking to the media after the visit, Dr Lartey said consistent monitoring by the Ministry, national coordinators, regional teams and district focal persons has contributed significantly to improving the performance of the programme.

She added that the Ministry is introducing basic table manners and hygiene education as part of school feeding to help instil positive habits in young learners.
Overall, the Committee expressed satisfaction with the quality of meals provided and commended the collaboration between caterers, head teachers and government stakeholders.
