The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has strongly condemned a violent assault captured in a viral social media video involving a man alleged to be a landlord and his wife.
In the disturbing footage, the man was seen repeatedly assaulting the woman in what the Ministry describes as a barbaric act that violates her rights and is punishable by law.
In a statement, the Ministry stressed that no individual has the right to subject another person to any form of abuse under any circumstances.
“We strongly condemn this barbaric act in its strongest terms. This act infringes on the victim’s rights, and it is highly punishable by law,” the statement said.
According to the Ministry, the sector Minister has reached out to the Ghana Police Service to ensure a thorough investigation is conducted and that justice is served.
Describing domestic and sexual-based violence as a national concern, the Ministry urged the public to report such incidents as soon as they occur.
It further reaffirmed its commitment to work with all stakeholders to ensure that perpetrators of domestic violence face the full rigours of the law.
The public has also been advised to stay vigilant and report any suspected cases of abuse through the Domestic Violence Call Centre or the Ministry’s Helpline of Hope or report to the nearest police station.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has arrested the man captured in a viral video physically assaulting the woman believed to be his wife at their home in Ofankor, Ga East.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo on Tuesday, November 18.
