The Human Trafficking Secretariat under the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has intensified efforts to combat human trafficking by equipping its staff with practical skills through a targeted capacity-building training.
The training, organised in collaboration with Zoe, Akyea & Co., brought together selected officials of the Ministry to deepen their understanding of human trafficking and strengthen institutional response mechanisms.

The session formed part of a broader strategy by the Secretariat to move beyond general awareness and provide staff with hands-on knowledge on identifying, preventing, and responding to trafficking cases.
A key component of the training was the application of the 4Ps framework, Prevention, Protection, Prosecution, and Partnership, aimed at ensuring a coordinated and comprehensive approach in tackling the crime.
Head of the Human Trafficking Secretariat, Abena Annobea Asare, described the initiative as a crucial step in strengthening the Ministry’s response to human trafficking.

She noted that the training was designed not only to raise awareness but to empower staff with the tools needed to effectively address trafficking incidents.
Legal experts from Zoe, Akyea & Co. led technical sessions, offering insights into both national and international legal frameworks governing human trafficking, as well as the prosecution process and the rights of victims.

Through interactive presentations and case studies, participants were guided on informed decision-making and improving coordination across departments.
The session also enhanced the Ministry’s capacity to collaborate more effectively with legal stakeholders in addressing human trafficking cases, as part of ongoing efforts to combat what is widely regarded as a modern form of slavery.
