Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association Ibrahim Sannie Daara is refusing to give up on qualification to the 2018 FIFA World Cup and has asked new Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah to make it a priority despite Ghana having a disappointing start.
The Stars have begun their qualifying campaign to the World Cup poorly only managing a point from their opening two games, drawing goalless with Uganda at home and losing 2-0 at the hands of Egypt in Alexandria, and find themselves five points behind leaders the Pharaohs.
With only the group winner earning the rights to represent the continent, the task seem impossible as the Black Stars have to win all four remaining games and pray Egypt drop points.
“Of course it should be one of the main tasks that he should aspire to do. Let’s also remember that at this point out biggest competition is Egypt and they are five points ahead of us, so it will be difficult.
"Although we should measure the way we give him expectation the fact remains that we want to qualify for the world cup,” he said.
The Black Stars have qualified for the last three editions of the World Cup, with Kwesi Appiah the only indigenous manager to qualify Ghana for the World Cup in 2014. but was sacked after the tournament.
His second coming has been greeted with mixed reactions. Some believe Appiah is the right man at the moment to lift the team while others prefered a coach.
The former Kotoko defender will start work on May 1. His first assignment is against Ethiopia in June.
