The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) would, on Friday, November 2023, decide on the future of Black Stars coach Chris Hughton.
The decision to recosider the relationship with Hughton was taken following Ghana's feckless performance against Mexico and the USA last month during the international friendlies.
The leadership of the football governing body is not convinced the former Newcastle United manager would have a good start to the World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros.
After seven matches under Hughton, the Black Stars have not been impressive per the FA hierarchy. It has consequently initiated steps to part company with him after Ghana's last AFCON qualifier against Central Africa Republic.
However, the initial steps, per JoySports sources, were not approved by the Sports Ministry. About three weeks ago, after the Black Stars' friendly defeat against the USA, the FA revived its efforts to sack Chris, but their request was outrightly rejected by the Sports Ministry per JoySports sources.
It is unclear if the Ministry has finally rescinded its decision, but sources say Cabinet has not endorsed the move of the association.
Sources on October 20, 2023, drew JoySports to a supposed frosty relationship between the head of the technical team and the FA leadership, claiming they are often at loggerheads over player call ups to the senior national team.
Some claim the technical team itself is not united, hence Chris Hughton supervises training sessions himself instead of the conventional practice where the assistant coaches lead training sessions.
The ExCo meeting of the FA on Friday will be crucial as Chris fate would be decided, though sources say not all the members of the Council subscribe to the decision to sack Chris.
