Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Cudjoe Fianoo has revealed his outfit is in talks with the government to ease the covid-19 measures in order to allow more people attend league games.

Prior to the start of the season, the government through the Ministry of Sports gave clearance for match centres to admit 25% of football fans.

However, Fianoo says they are engaging the government to increase that number to 50% though he believes the success of that request will be dependent on the vaccination of the people.

“We (GHALCA) have been asking for an increase to 50% [from 25%]. But this covid is something that we all don’t have control over,” he told Joy Sports.

“The safety of Ghanaians is of more concern to everyone than our football. You try to increase the number then you hear of a new wave, you try to do something about attendance and it’s the same situation.

“We are in close collaboration with the health authorities because we don’t want to endanger the lives of Ghanaians. We will increase the number as soon as we get the signal from the health experts because we cannot decide on our own to do that.”

Asked about the Ghana Football Association’s ‘No Vaccination, No Entry’ policy, Fianoo added: “I am sure it's being practised elsewhere. We need to encourage Ghanaians to take the vaccines. If the vaccines will reduce the risk involved with the virus then we need to encourage the policy.”

“If we want the safety of our teams, the players as well as the fans and the government says we need to vaccinate before games and there are tough games, don’t you think I would want to vaccinate to get the opportunity to go to the stadium? We have to do.”
