The Chairman-elect of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), John Ansah, has expressed his commitment to uniting stakeholders in Ghana football.
Ansah, a former GHALCA Vice-Chairman, emerged victorious in the association’s elections held on Thursday, January 23, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
He secured 96 out of 132 votes cast, with his opponent, Isaac Wilberforce Koomson, earning 35 votes, while one ballot was rejected.
Speaking after his victory, Ansah pledged to foster collaboration within the football community and seek advice from colleagues to elevate GHALCA.
“I think there is some big challenge on bringing ourselves [football people] together. I think I want to drive on that.
"If you look at my flyer, I said that I want to be a productive leader, and that means that I want to bring everybody on board.
"I’ll solicit a lot of advice from my senior and even my own colleagues to be able to lift GHALCA from where it was,” he said.
Ansah also commended the achievements of the previous administration while highlighting his plans to build on their successes and address areas that need improvement.
“The previous administration did a lot, but we need to improve on that and then work on the negatives so that we can address some of these mistakes.
"We’re going to run an open-door policy where every idea that comes on board will be collated and put together to work effectively to lift GHALCA up once again,” he added.
Former Ghana Football Association Vice-President Fred Pappoe, who was present at the election, expressed confidence in the newly elected executives.
“Leading an association is not an easy task, but I believe they’re all up to the task.
"Listening to their pledges and their manifesto promises, I’d want to believe they understand the enormity of the task. I wish them well in their endeavor,” Pappoe told JoySports.
In other election results, Phyllis Marku won the Vice Chairperson position with 94 votes, defeating Nana Amankwah, who polled 34 votes.
Gabriel Godwin was elected as the Regional Football Association Representative ahead of Isaac Gasper.
Fred Tindan emerged as the Premier League Representative, beating Joseph Nkoo and Rahman Yakubu.
