Ghana and Japan have renewed their commitment to enhance their bilateral relations.

The commitment was made during a ceremony for the signing and Exchange of Notes for the additional grant under the Japanese Grant Assistance “The Project Rehabilitation of National Trunk Road N8 (Phase 2)”, on Friday, April 12, 2024.

The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong MP, signed on behalf of the Government of Ghana and Japan’s Ambassador to Ghana, Mochizuki Hisanobu, signed for his country.

In his remarks, Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong recalled the longstanding relationship between the two countries and Japan’s continuous support towards Ghana’s development.

He further commended the Japanese Government for being a reliable development partner of Ghana.

In his response, the Ambassador of Japan to Ghana, Mr Hisanobu, expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana for cooperating with Japan in areas of mutual interest and indicated his government’s continuous commitment to collaborate with Ghana on upcoming projects and other areas of mutual interest.

He further highlighted the importance of the additional funding which increases Japan’s financial contribution from JPY 6,849,000,000 to JPY 6,880,000,000.

The additional funds would be used to enhance the structural integrity and safety of the National Trunk Road (N8) which connects Cape Coast to Kumasi, a key route that supports economic activities and connectivity between the two regions.
